I podcast

Sound tells stories.
It builds tension, holds silence, reveals emotion.

I’ve written, produced and composed award-winning audio for broadcast and film — from intimate radio essays to large-scale sound design. My work lives somewhere between documentary and music, journalism and art.

Selected Work

Who Killed Bill?
Newstalk FM — PPI Radio Award Nominee
A true-crime documentary investigating one of Ireland’s most mysterious deaths. Produced, edited and scored for Newstalk FM — nominated for Best Documentary at the PPI Radio Awards.

Bones of Contention
RTÉ Lyric FM — IMRO Radio Award Nominee
A darkly playful radio docudrama about the life and legacy of Brian O’Nolan — the writer behind Flann O’Brien and Myles na gCopaleen. Featuring performances and reflections from Julian Gough, Pat McCabe, Ardal O’Hanlon and Tommy Tiernan, it reimagines the writer’s fractured genius through sound, satire and surrealism. Produced for RTÉ Lyric FM, the piece was nominated for an IMRO Radio Award for Best Documentary/Feature..

Last Thoughts
RTÉ Lyric FM — New York Festivals Radio Award Winner
A dramatic sound-essay on the life and music of Irish composer John Field — from his Dublin youth through triumphant tours to his Russian exile. Commissioned by RTÉ Lyric FM and produced by me, it mixes expert interviews, original performance and documentary drama to illuminate Field’s role as the “Father of the Nocturne”. Awarded at the New York Festivals Radio Awards for its craft and originality

Film Score

Charlie Casanova
Feature film directed by Terry McMahon.
I composed and performed the original score under my musical moniker The Spinning Boy — an unsettling blend of rhythm, tension and dissonance that mirrors the film’s fractured moral universe. Drawing on layered electronic textures and live performance, the soundtrack threads through the film like an unsteady conscience, blurring the line between sound and psychology.

I make sound for stories — radio, film, podcast

I direct

I’ve directed a hell of a lot of (forgive an awful word here) ‘content’. I say ‘content’ because I’ve made an eclectic array of TV ads, short films, feature films, stage plays, radio plays and music videos. My work has won awards as diverse as student BAFTAs for fiction film to New York Festivals Awards for radio documentary. I understand story, and I understand medium, so give me a brief, script or concept, and I will guide the performers and technicians to deliver their best. To quote John Lennon, “I’m an artist, and if you give me a tuba, I’ll bring you something out of it.”

Here are some samples. Below is a bit from the FilmBase/RTE award-winning short film ‘Blood Coloured Moon’. The film was selected for the award by Emmy and Oscar-nominated director Lenny Abrahamson and edited by Nathan Nugent, editor of the Oscar-nominated ‘Room’ and ‘The Door’.

Here are some idents I shot for a TV station in Ireland. I’ve worked for years producing, directing and editing promos for various broadcasters around the world. I’ve won a Promax award!

This is a feature horror I wrote and directed. I shot it in Thailand and Los Angeles on 35mm film. It got a theatrical release in 3 territories and a global release on DVD. The making of it was a story in itself. (Buy me a beer, and I’ll horrify you with the gory details)

Here’s a TV commercial I directed for a newspaper in India. The company is the biggest family-owned media company in Asia including various TV stations, newspapers, magazines and web portals. I produced a lot of ‘content’ for them.

Here’s a supercut of my screen adaptation of ‘Double Transformation’, a poem by Oliver Goldsmith. I’ve directed numerous short films around the world, and I have received various awards for them, including FujiFilm International Filmscript Award, MTV European Eye, Los Angeles Film Awards, and Kerry Film Festival Best Experimental Film Award.

I produce

I produce various long and short form content for broadcast, advertising, corporate communications and NGOs.

And I don’t just produce engaging stories for the screen, I also excel at narrative audio. Call it radio, call it podcasting, either way I’ve won prizes for it: have a listen!

I’ve produced in Europe and Asia and for the last 8 years I’ve made Hollywood my home. In Los Angeles, I’ve handled all the usual challenges of permitting, location management, parking, insurance, police and community relations. No problem.

Whether it’s small-scale, factual productions like this series of short biographies on Los Angeles-based artists I produced for a German audio technology company…

…or this series of animations I produced for a Norwegian software company.

Or even a full-scale, action-packed, feature drama, shot on the streets of LA:

I get it done.

I shoot

I am a self-operating director experienced in shooting on RED, HD, and even 35mm. I’ve shot and directed feature and short dramas, broadcast TV and tons of films for corporate and non-profit groups.

Here’s me shooting an interview with Public Enemy’s Chuck D for an upcoming feature documentary on the history of rap.

I edit

And I also just edit. I’ve been a promo editor (what’s known as a preditor) for an absolute age. I’ve cut promos for broadcasters all over the world.

I’ve worked a preditor, writing, producing and editing TV promos for Virgin Media, RTE TV, and Headlines Today. Here’s a selection of the types I made for the Channel 6 in Ireland.

Here’s an indie feature that is currently in post-production. It’ll be awesome when it’s finished. (I must change the temp music and graphics on this, when I get a chance). And guess what? I shot it too, and composed the music. I know, right?

I spent two years cutting Performance Videos – adverts that streamed mostly on social media – for Los Angeles-based agency Tubescience. I cut, color-corrected and created motion graphics on about 12 ads a week during this period so I have lots of them. Here are 3. (I even composed the music on these)

I also like to do those non-profit projects that are good for the soul (despite the heartbreakingly small budgets). This one is about seniors in Ireland. I shot and edited it, and again, (go me!), composed the music. I’m telling you, I’m a one-stop shop.

And I’m certified, baby!

I write

I am a story maker. The medium doesn’t matter to me. Stage, screen, radio, print or immersive media, it’s all the same; my goal is to take the audience on a compelling journey.

I am particularly fascinated by history, art and culture. I love to explore these areas in my writing, using the elements of humor and drama, in order to educate, provoke and entertain.

From writing feature films in Hollywood to commercials in India, I’ve pretty much done it all (and practically everywhere). So, regardless of the context, if you need a good story well told, I’m your man.
